![]() ![]() Sega is continuing that 2D legacy with Sonic Superstars: a return to sidescrolling platforming with its very own animated intro. Then Sonic Origins added in animated cutscenes to the original games using classic themes. More recently, Sonic Mania gave us a more modern and stylised effort featuring Tails and Knuckles too, its song a cute and catchy, whirring little electronic number. Sega please, give us a 3D Sonic game in this style! Sonic Superstars - Opening Animation Sonic Superstars - Opening Animationīack in the 90s, Sonic CD's animation blew my mind - seeing my favourite pixelated character speed around a brightly-coloured hand-drawn 3D environment, pinging off cliffs and scampering across water, was an absolute dream of a cartoon. And the just-released intro for Sega's forthcoming Sonic Superstars is hitting all the right notes. I prefer that classic 90s sound overall but something about "Sonic boooom Sonic boooom" gets me so excited for another high-speed adventure - what can I say, I like the cheese.Īll of which is to say, I love the Sonic animation intros. The chugging electric guitars! The earworm vocal harmonies! The key shift from verse to chorus! Japan's You Can Do Anything is a funky 90s bop that just sounds inherently Sonic, while Sonic Boom set the tone for the later rock-heavy Sonic Adventure games. Sonic fans have long debated which Sonic CD soundtrack is best between the Japanese and American releases.įor the opening at least, I've always loved the American version: Sonic Boom. It does in the Plus edition.I'm a big fan of Sonic Boom. ![]() Monkey Dude does surprisingly not appear in Sonic Mania.The charge when Robotnik's machine is about to blow is identical to how the Great Eggman Robo does in the Sonic (3) & Knuckles game.Sonic and Tails spinning each other in mid-air is comparable to how Sonic gets tossed in the air in the Sonic Mania game intro.When Sonic and Tails attack Robotnik's machine, the sound you may hear is the same one when you damage a boss in Sonic Mania.How Tails makes Sonic stand after his collapse is similar to how Sonic does so by Tails in Sonic Adventure.Top right, you can see the numbers 01 02 04 and 06, a code used to reclaim the Chaos Emeralds in Sonic 2.At the bottom right, numbers 19 65 09 and 17 are visible referencing Yuji Naka's birth (September 17th, 1965) and the code for the level select in Sonic 2.Referencing the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (November 24th, 1992) and it's Debug Mode code. Robotnik jumps up from joy and looks at the Tornado, being sure it is the fasted way to snatch it. It views a Monkey Dude using it's eye as a camera to view an echidna dragging his Master Emerald on the other side of the island. ![]() Robotnik lands back on the same beach in anger and looks at his device. Sonic and Tails show both emeralds and cling it, laughing at the end. After giving a fist bump to Sonic, Tails rushes over to the emerald and holds it. Robotnik looks furiously at Sonic before getting blasted into the air. Tails fires Sonic through Robotnik's machine. Tails flies above with Sonic, who both start to spin. Just before getting crushed, Tails saves him. Robotnik drills harder with one drill, the other attacks Sonic. He then feels turbulence from a hedgehog and a fox, who attack Robotnik rapidly. Robotnik is still drilling for the emerald. Sonic and Tails team up to defeat Robotnik. He looks irritated with sand on his face and then looks up to the fox, who lends Sonic a hand. He launches back where he came from, the island. Sonic excitedly charges at Robotnik, but gets swept right away, losing some rings. Sonic jumps at the scene, making Robotnik angrily turn around and pointing his two drills on the side of his Egg Mobile at Sonic. It is the evil scientist Robotnik who is causing trouble on the island, whilst searching for the emerald with his new drilling mobile. Sonic dashes to the happening, leaving Tails behind. A weird quake occurs, leaving a smoke cloud that rises to the skies. It locates a red Chaos Emerald that is near their location. He inspects the device clearly and it then beeps. ![]() Sonic throws Robotnik's strange device at Tails, who catches it. He looks around and sees a wink from Sonic the Hedgehog. After cleaning the sweat from his hard-working face, A blur crosses him by. Story įrom the palm trees of Angel Island, Tails works on his Tornado plane. As some mysteries are solved and new ones begin, Sonic will learn that to succeed, sometimes all you need is a helping hand. Eggman’s newest plot, a tremor rocks the beach. When Sonic shows up to let Tails know about Dr. ![]()
